Weddings

On the east side of the castle, the private chapel, built around the turn of the century, seamlessly adjoins. The von Schorlemer family conducted private masses and baptisms there. A square vestibule connects the chapel to the current lobby and the adjacent sacristy. The floor of the vestibule is adorned with mosaic, designed by the architect Heinrich Theodor Schmidt. Aurora, the Roman goddess of dawn holding a flame scepter and the sun in her hands, is depicted on it. She is surrounded by the circle of zodiac signs. Throughout the chapel, pointed arch tracery windows are arranged. The apse windows depict Saint Edward, Saint Hyacinth (patron saints of the Puricelli spouses), and in the center, Saint Helena, who is said in legend to have brought the Holy Robe to Trier. The walls were originally painted with ornamental and figurative motifs, but they are now covered with plaster.
